The Ichimoku Cloud Indicator
The Ichimoku Cloud Indicator
The Ichimoku Cloud indicator, also known as Ichimoku Kinko Hyo, is a very comprehensive tool that helps traders identify trends as well as support and resistance levels in the market. This indicator is one of the most complete and can be used in multiple strategies: trend following, reversal strategies, and more. However, it is also one of the indicators with the most parameters to configure.

The Ichimoku Block Configuration
On BullTrading, you have many options to configure each block to make it unique. In this block, you can set the time unit, period used, and more.
Input Type (First Curve Type)
The condition for this block is constructed like a sentence. The first parameter is in the form when_ followed by the curve you choose . For example, for the first option, it would be when the price... (the condition continues in the next parameters).
Trigger Type
To build the next part of the condition, you choose whether you want the first curve to be above or below the second to validate the condition. So, if you choose the first option (Is Above), it creates the condition: when the price is above... (the condition continues in the next parameter).
Output Type (Second Curve Type)
The condition continues with the choice of the second curve. If you select TenkanSen, for example, following the previous example, the condition would be: when the price is above (or crosses above) the TenkanSen, the block is validated.
Signal Type
This parameter has two options: CrossOver and Position. Here’s the difference:
CrossOver: If you select CrossOver for the signal type, this block will only validate when the input type curve crosses above or below the output type curve, and only at the crossover point.
Position: With this option, the block is validated when the input type curve is above or below the output type curve.
TIPS: The CrossOver parameter is much more restrictive, making it useful when combining only one or two indicators. However, using too many blocks with CrossOver will significantly reduce the number of trades in your strategy, as it requires, for example, a crossover between the two MAs + a crossover at the RSI 70 threshold + a crossover in the Vortex indicator.
So, if you’re a beginner, avoid setting more than one or two blocks to CrossOver when combining multiple indicator blocks.
Tenkan, Kijun, Senkou B Periods
As explained in the previous section, the Ichimoku is made up of several curves with different periods. You can modify the period for each of these curves.
Senkou, Chikou offset
Some Ichimoku curves are also offset by N candles, and you can adjust this offset with the last two parameters.
